Photography Workshop: Intro to Astrophotography

Explore the night skies of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve from our Twizel base camp. Award-winning astrophotographer and educator Mike White will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to the basics of Astrophotography and guide you through the practical process of making your own Nightscape photographs i.e. starry skies above a landscape setting.

Our workshops are delivered with a combination of both theory sessions and practical exercises in the field so that you not only become comfortable in operating your camera to capture the night sky but that you also develop a broader understanding of the principles involved.

The workshop is timed to take advantage of a New Moon phase to ensure you can fully appreciate the beauty of observing the stars from a world-renowned Dark Sky Reserve. We’ll also keep an eye on Space Weather forecasts, just in case a sighting of the elusive Aurora Australis is possible.
