Where 'nine' means abundance and cats live multiple lives, this exhibition multiplies both into countless feline tales - turning doodling into productive procrastination and embroidery into open-eyed meditation. Starring an army of strawberry cats (inspired by Taiwan's nickname “strawberry generation” for millennials - easily bruised but unable to handle stress) and their dotty fox friends, with enough tiny details to make your eyes squint in solidarity. Includes Rae's 2024 Tokyo residency series "Strawberry Cat: Under Achiever's Visual Diary."
Rae Huang 黃盈睿 (Taiwan)
A cultural studies graduate who accidentally discovered her calling through café doodles, took a detour to Japan for Ukiyo-e inspiration (found excellent after-work drinks instead), then somehow turned 7 years of Wellington life into the world's most productive unofficial artist residency. Currently juggling online English tutoring with art-making.
