METEOR; Music From Another World

VillageMusic in Mt Eden is back for our 17th winter series of "soirées" and for our first show of 2025, our favourite word is ‘VIRTUOSO’: A consummate master of musical technique and artistry. A person who shows masterly or dazzling skill, or brilliance. So it is our privilege to welcome back three of our favourite 'virtuosi" to the old hall, for a convivial evening of funky musical fun.

METEOR "Music From Another World" is the brainchild of Jonathan Crayford who is considered one of New Zealand's foremost jazz pianists and film composers. He has been fittingly described as "one of New Zealand's best exports to the musical world". Wellington raised, he began studying piano at age three, was playing gigs with his father as a teen, and was composing for the screen by age 18. Jonathan's career has seen him grace many of the most famous venues in New York, London, and many European cities. Jonathan is indeed, the real deal.

Joining Jonathan on bass we have Mostyn Cole. Also Wellington-born, Mostyn grew up between two worlds: his ties to jazz and the years he spent performing mambo and cha-cha music in Wellington. His old-time bass-picking skills, arranging and songwriting abilities have brought acclaim from audiences and musicians both at home and abroad.

And on Drums, we have young Auckland born Maximilion Crook. “Max Crook is an outstanding drummer, bandleader and composer. His music is rich in warmth, humour and integrity and is a joy to experience.” – Roger Manins
