This workshop teaches you how to make your own paints using pure powder pigment and a variety of binders. You’ll make Egg Tempera and explore how to enhance it with Linseed Oil. Make Distemper paints with glue size and apply shellac for a new look.
This workshop also delves into the nature of paint pigments sharing information that will influence your decisions when it comes to choosing paints.
For those interested in painting with no previous painting experience and those wishing to try something new.

Make tempera paint using just the yoke and then adding linseed oil for a different version of tempera.

Each participant will take away:
2 x 30ml jars of artist quality pigment.
Sachet of shellac
Visual studies.
There is a minimum of four participants for this class to go ahead.
Your tutor’s background
Marc Hill has a background in film and theater though he was originally a scientist at the UK Ministry of Defence. He started as a gopher at Shepperton Studios before eventually working his way to art director. In those days we worked extensively with distemper, vinyl, casein and emulsion paints. Two commercials he art directed, Maxwell Tapes “Storm” and Turkish Delight, both directed by Howard Guard, won eight awards.
