Steve Mitchell delivers original songs, Country Blues and Americana via fingerstyle and funky slide guitar.
Primarily as a solo acoustic performer or with Nelson bands The Scintillators and Humankindness, Steve Mitchell is a familiar name to music audiences around the region, with appearances at most major festivals and venues across the Top Of The South.
Drawing on a love of classic Pop and Soul songwriters from the 60s/70s, Steve strives to create songs that are thought-provoking, hard to define but easy to enjoy.
Steve is best-known as a slide guitarist, but describes his guitar playing as “a homegrown funky fingerstyle of no fixed genre - a mix of folk guitar, gospel and pre-war Country Blues.”
Steve is a member of Nelson’s top-draw Sun City Soul band and plays in The Barnstormers - the house band of the Tasman Bay Blues Club. He has opened shows for artists as diverse as Jackie Bristow, Grant Haua and Adam McGrath and recently played guitar for Australian-based boogie-woogie piano legend Jan Preston.
