About Woolston Brass

Established in 1891, Woolston Brass Inc. has remained steadfast in its Māori motto, Tohea Kia Kaha (Persevere, so there is Strength). Today, the organisation is home to over 150 members across three brass bands; Woolston Junior Band, Woolston Concert Brass and Woolston Brass, and a learners’ group. Its renowned Academy education programme nurtures more than 100 children and adults, providing a supportive environment where they can develop their musical skills and engage with the community through concerts and contests at both local and national levels.

Many Academy members go on to join Christchurch’s iconic Woolston Brass, celebrated for its musical excellence and versatility. Whether performing in concert halls for the Canterbury community, captivating audiences in its annual concert series, or competing as New Zealand’s most successful contesting brass band, Woolston Brass continues to set the standard.

At its heart, Woolston Brass Inc. exists to inspire, educate, and bring people together through exceptional and diverse musical experiences.
