On Sunday 27 April from 10AM, another Orange Bike Ride will be held in Otaihanga Domain and along the Waikanae River, building on the hugely successful event of last year. All ages are welcome. Please start gathering from 9:45am so we can have a prompt start.
Prizes will be available for the best-dressed bike and person, preferably orange.
There will be free Dutch biscuits/snacks available for participants and visitors. Coffee Cruisers will be serving Darkhorse Coffee and the Council is providing resources to keep the kids entertained.
The Orange Bike Ride aims to promote cycling as a sustainable means of transport which helps us to address climate change through a standout and enjoyable family-oriented event connecting New Zealanders with the local Dutch communities in as many regions as possible across Aotearoa New Zealand.
The bike course will be a short loop around the Waikanae River Trails, completely off-road, with marshalls guiding the way. It is suitable for cyclists of all ages.
The event forms part of the annual Dutch Week festival, which will be held from 26 April to 4 May 2025, celebrating all things Dutch such as culture, language, heritage and food, highlighting the strong connections between the Netherlands and Aotearoa New Zealand. It aims to share Dutch culture and contributions of local Dutch communities and businesses in a diverse Aotearoa New Zealand.
