Petone’s seaside Artspace Gallery is proud to welcome Wellington photographer, Mary Livingston, for an exhibition featuring her photography of Wellington.
When Mary first arrived in Wellington from northern England in 1976, she was completely blown away by the quality of the light here. The light’s intensity and brightness, the rich colours that abounded in the sea, bush, hills and sky around our harbour inspired Mary to photograph it. The terrain around Wellington meant that around almost every corner was another stunning view waiting for Mary to explore and photograph.
Mary started with a small point and shoot digital camera and progressed through to a full frame camera backed up occasionally with her cell phone. Mary mostly uses colour and everything is shot in RAW for processing in Light Room. This exhibition is the culmination of many years of Mary’s Wellington photography. As well as framed photographs, the exhibition will also include a rolling slide show on display at the gallery to give viewers a wider foray of her other work including her wild seas, abstracts and bush photography.
Photography means a lot to Mary and she is proud to have had a few images recognized by some local competitions and was honored to receive several photography awards. ‘’Being out with my camera grounds me on so many levels and I just love looking and seeing, trying to catch the mood of whatever the light is showing me on the day. There are thousands of us out there these days so I feel very humbled to be invited to exhibit at Alfred's gallery.’’
As well as Mary’s exhibition in the upstairs photography space Artspace Gallery has four other gallery spaces to explore and features art by over two hundred local and NZ artists in all genres. The gallery has become a popular go to place for prints and art of Wellington and also provides an extensive range of unique NZ made gifts. Also popular are the fun art classes, Wine & Watercolour evenings for adults and school holiday art classes for youth.
