Walk 19 – Twin Coast Cycle Trail - Walk and Bike
At Paihia, a van will take you to a section of the Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycle Trail which is one of New Zealand's Great Rides.
Morning tea will be in the small village of Okaihau then just past Okaihau you will be dropped off to walk 9.5km downhill to Snow’s farm in the Utakura Valley. The views are stunning across the valley as you walk down a steep switchback into the valley. You will pass through Puriri and Kahikatea tree forests and follow the Utakura River. If you are lucky you will find the native orchid in flower.
After returning by vehicle to Okaihau for lunch you will be transported back to Okaihau so you can cycle 14 km to Kaikohe. You might like to bring a headlight for the tunnel! It’s a slight uphill to start with, then it's level and downhill!
At Kaikohe your transport will await you, so you can be transported back to Paihia, where you will have the opportunity to explore Paihia and return to Russell on the passenger ferry when you like.
These sections are a beautiful part of the Pou Herenga Tai Twin Coast Cycle Trail – one of New Zealand’s Great Rides.
It is important that you do know how to ride a bike and have ridden a bicycle in the last few years.
There is an option to upgrade to an e-bike foor an additional $50.

2. The Russell Bowling Club is our Walking Weekend HQ, all walks start from there.
Our guides are all passionate and knowledgeable about the Bay of Islands area and bring something special to the walking experience. Each walk has no more than 20 people. Our HQ is the Russell Bowling Club where people can meet, chat about their day and have something to eat and drink.
Russell is a fantastic base for the weekend with lots of great restaurants, places to stay and for the non-walkers out there. We are very excited about this weekend and the great walking experiences there are here in the Bay of Islands. Time to get your walking boots out of the cupboard and join us in the Bay of Islands.
Visit our website to see all the walks you can do.
