On Saturday 6 April Toi Ako Artspace and venues across the Waerenga Valley are hosting an inaugural Creative Car Rally. This is an opportunity for people of all ages to gather together as a team or whaanau, jump in a car and enjoy a leisurely day in the countryside creating art, learning about local history and having a whole lot of fun.

How do I register?
Email artstekauwhata with these details:
- Contact Name, Phone & Email
- Car/Team Name
Pay your registration fee of $20 to 031574000757200

How did this idea come about?
Toi Ako is a creative space in Te Kauwhata and like our parent organisation Te Kauwhata Community House we serve the village and surrounding districts. Through conversations with several committee members responsible for community facilities in Waerenga we recognised that many of these fabulous facilities needed celebration. Some have precious histories and others are current thriving community hubs. Te Kauwhata is growing rapidly and many residents have not had the opportunity to explore their back yard yet. We wanted to create an event that would:
encourage people to visit Waerenga
showcase Waerenga's history and buildings
connect our services at Toi Ako and Te Kauwhata Community House with the Waerenga Community
be a whole lot of fun for families.

How does it work?
You will need to register your car at artstekauwhata@gmail.com. Registration is $20 per vehicle and you may have as many people in your car as you have seat belts for.
Prior to the event we will provide you with a map and a quiz.
Between 10am and 2.30pm you will need to visit each of the locations on your map. You may visit the destinations in any order you wish. Plan to spend 20-30mins in each location. There you will meet a local host and a Toi Ako arts activator. As a team you will be offered a creative challenge to complete in each location and have the opportunity to find our answers to your quiz.
By 3pm you will end the day at Waerenga Hall where we will share our art and experiences, spot prizes, entertainment and a little light supper.

But what if I am not creative?
Everyone is creative, you just need a little confidence! No one will be judging your work. It is all about participation and giving things a go. Remember you can work as a team. Draw on each other's strengths. You won't be asked to paint a picture. Our challenges involve moving, sculpting, weaving, writing and more. Our team will be there to support you.

Do we get to drive fast?
No. This is a rally in the sense that you are required to travel a specific route but think of it more of a gentle romp. It is essential that you obey road rules and speed restrictions at all times. There are no benefits in being the first car home. Enjoy the journey.

What happens if it rains?
Most of our venues are inside so we will proceed rain or shine. Just bring an umbrella to get from your car to the venue if rain is forecast.

When do registrations close?
Registrations close Monday 25 March unless we reach capacity prior to then. We will cap participation at 50 vehicles for safety.

Huge thanks to Creative Communities Waikato, Waerenga Church, Waerenga Hall, Waerenga School, Waerenga Rec Centre and all our volunteers.
