Voces Luce, the premier choir at Queen Margaret College, consists of 41 singers in Years 9-13. They are conducted by Mark Stamper and accompanied by Louise Logan. They rehearse weekly, sing for community events, school assemblies, and participate in The Big Sing, which is New Zealand's secondary schools choral competition. Since 2019, Voces Luce has consistently been selected to represent their school at a national level following the regional competitions.
In 2018, we represented New Zealand in the Australian International Music Festival, where we were awarded a Gold medal for our outstanding performance at the Sydney Opera House. Last year, Voces Luce was the first New Zealand choir to sing at the Orientale Concentus International Choral Festival in Singapore. After the preliminary round of competition, Voces Luce was one of five choirs selected to sing in the Grand Prix final.
In July, over 10,000 singers in 250 choirs from 40 different countries will converge in Auckland for the World Choir Games, making this the largest choir competition in the world. Voces Luce will represent Queen Margaret College, their whānau, and Aotearoa New Zealand as they compete in the two categories. Today's concert will be the two sets of music that will be sung in competition for the World Choir Games.
