Growing up in inner city Auckland in the 1970’s, your neighbours came from the Pacific Islands. There were lots of children playing on the streets until sunset, in an era when Ponsonby was affectionately known as Little Polynesia.
Hear firsthand the impact of being Aotearoa Pasifika born, learning to confront challenges and successes, from Dawn Raids to acceptance as a part of Aotearoa's landscape. Explore how Pasifika individuals have represented themselves, whether through sports, music, art, or poetry, and learn about their unique contributions to academic discourse.
Presented by Pasifika Historian Sofi Ulugia-Pua, this discussion promises to be enlightening and thought-provoking. Multimedia presentations will include archival news footage from the period, providing an insight into a significant chapter of Polynesian heritage in Ponsonby.
