Scott Bainbridge knows more than almost anyone about cold cases and missing people in New Zealand. This year he has published two books to intrigue and delight his readers: The Trials of Nurse Kerr: The Anatomy of a Secret Poisoner, in which he reveals the tale of the woman who may well have been New Zealand’s most prolific poisoner; and The Heist: The Birkenhead Foodtown Robbery covers the 1984 incident when armed men held up an Armourguard truck, taking about $300,000. He talks to investigative journalist Mike White.
Scott Bainbridge is one of New Zealand’s foremost investigative true crime authors. His first two books, Without Trace and Still Missing inspired the acclaimed TVNZ series The Missing. He has famously investigated and written about the Bassett Road machine gun murders and a 1956 Auckland waterfront heist. He has now published ten books. The Fix was shortlisted for the 2023 Ngaio Marsh Award for Best Non-Fiction crime writing.
Mike White is an award winning journalist and senior writer for Stuff, and the author of books Who Killed Scott Guy? and How to Walk a Dog. He has recently moved to Central Otago from Wellington.
