'For the last three years West Coast theatre group, Kiwi/Possum Productions have performed a theatre classic in the old miners’ bathhouse in Blackball, with great response from local audiences. The productions rapidly became iconic with Beckett’s Endgame and Anouilh’s version of the Greek tragedy, Antigone being staged. The process is condensed into a week of rehearsal and production, with actors arriving with lines learnt. Often people from outside the Coast have been involved.
In 2023, Golden Bay’s Dramalab worked in partnership with Kiwi/Possum to produce Shakespeare’s The Tempest, evoking a very generous audience response. As much work went into set and costuming
The Tempest was Shakespeare’s last play and is often considered to be his farewell to theatre. Interestingly, it is also considered the first play to deal with colonisation. It is sad, happy, satiric and idealistic at the same time.'
