The Incubator

In the Incubator Gallery, we are showcasing Joel Nicholls' exhibition titled "The Odd Bird." This exhibition is named after the artist's poem, "The Odd Bird," which humorously refers to his focus on birds.

Born in Auckland in 1986, Joel Nicholls is a self-taught artist who finds inspiration in the natural world. His artistic vision and perspective on life have been influenced by numerous solitary explorations in native forests. This influence is apparent in his diverse and distinctly unique mixed media artworks. Each piece he creates seems to tell a story, capturing the essence of the landscapes he has traversed and the emotions they evoke.

Joel's work often features a harmonious blend of organic textures and vibrant colours, echoing the intricate patterns found in nature. His ability to merge different materials and techniques not only showcases his versatility but also breathes life into his creations, making them resonate deeply with viewers.

Opening preview Friday 5th July, 5:30pm. Everyone welcome. Refreshments and licenced bar available.
On display in The Incubator Gallery from 6th to the 27th July 2024, 10am-3pm Monday to Saturday, and some Sundays.

Born 1986 in Auckland, Joel Nicholls is a self taught artist who draws his inspiration from the natural world around him. His many solo wanderings amongst the native forests throughout his life have shaped his artistic vison and life outlook. This is something which is evident in his various and oddly unique mixed media artworks.
