We are Super excited to announce the return of your favourite poet, artist and wordsmith Sam Duckor-Jones to Bannockburn on 13-14 APRIL 2024 for a weekend of playful, silly musical, mysterious whimsical and profound learning in a small group workshop... showcasing Sam's signature style....Followed by 10 weeks of online zooms and shared learning to help you consolidate this into a body of work.

Participants will read & discuss various poems, poets & poetic techniques; listen to recordings of poets reading and try on their voices; hunt for poems in unlikely places and experiment and play.
After the completion of the workshop the group will continue to meet one once a week for ten weeks, online, to discuss a new poetic form, explore some examples & to share their own writing. Over this time participants will send Sam one poem each week that he will critique & return.

At the end of the ten weeks group members will each have a strong portfolio of original work and a set of skills that give them confidence to continue reading, writing & playing in the fabulous world of poetry.

Potential and/or practicing poets.

Cost: $500.This covers the weekend workshop and ten online session costs. Participants will be
required to cover their own travel, accommodation, and lunch costs.

About Sam:
Sam Duckor-Jones is a poet and artist currently living in Mawhera-Greymouth. He completed a Masters in Creative Writing at the International Institute of Modern Letters in 2017, for which he won the Biggs Family Prize. Sam has published two acclaimed collections of poetry: People From The Pit Stand Up (VUP, 2018) and Party Legend (THWUP, 2021) which was longlisted for the 2022 Ockham NZ Book Awards. He has exhibited widely with work in notable private and public collections and representation by Bowen Galleries. Sam's current art project is the queer transformation of a derelict West Coast church into a camp public sculpture: Gloria of Greymouth.
This is Sam’s third visit to Bannockburn as a guest artist.
