Using the latest in satellite technology, see and speak to Kiwi engineers and scientists live from Antarctica!

Tere Tīpako Tio: Rapid Extensive Antarctic Ice Sampling is a University of Otago-led research project that is developing new ways to rapidly collect ice samples from Antarctic ice sheets, which is crucial to helping us understand how Antarctica will respond to climate change.

Although we can’t take you there in person, we can connect you first-hand with our team on the ice via a Starlink connection*. They’ll show you where they work, sleep, and play, and introduce you to the mahi they do in this amazing environment. You can ask any-and-all questions you might have!

We’ll also have the Far from Frozen science showcase available with its hands-on interactives that help demystify the process of climate change and its impacts.

* The Antarctic environment can pose some exceptional challenges for those working there. We therefore can’t guarantee the live connection, but that is part of the experience of what it’s like to operate on the ice.
