Engage in a drop-in quilting session where you'll have the opportunity to design your own quilt square to contribute towards a collaborative community Pride quilt. Whether you're a seasoned quilter or a first timer, this session offers a space to learn basic embroidery techniques or express your creativity using fabric paint and pens.
Your panel is a canvas to share the narrative of your identity, pay tribute to someone significant, or simply celebrate the joy of being a part of the rainbow community. All individual squares crafted during the session will be carefully collected and woven together into the Dunedin Pride Community 2024 Quilt. Witness the culmination of diverse stories and experiences forming a collective quilt.
Toitū houses a collection of signature quilts, ranging from fundraising to memorial pieces. These quilts serve as a valuable link to the past, offering a meaningful connection to history. Quilts hold special significance in the LGBTQ+ community as powerful symbols of unity, identity, and resilience. Beyond their practical warmth, quilts often serve as tangible representations of personal and shared histories, connecting individuals within the LGBTQ+ community and preserving a sense of belonging and pride.
