Aikido is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. This requires very little physical strength, as the aikidōka (aikido practitioner) "leads" the attacker's momentum using entering and turning movements. The techniques are completed with various throws or joint locks. The Aikido taught by Sensei Nishimura is both effective and effortless. You will be taught techniques that require very little physical strength and therefore, training is suitable for all people, male and female - regardless of size or strength. You will also be taught how to receive techniques safely, by undertaking various breakfalls. The first 1 month of lessons are free so come along and try it out without any obligation. Just wear something loose or gym clothes. Sunday classes are in the main dojo, ground floor. Thursday classes are in the upstairs dojo (walk through the entrance and find the staircase to the left).
