The second annual Sculpt Nature Competition will be held from 18 to 27 October this year in partnership with the Nelson Arts Festival!

Sculpt Nature was first launched in 2022 as a 9-day eco-sculpture symposium and competition hosted by the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary. The competition aims to unite the creative arts and conservation sectors through a symposium focusing on the use of natural materials. The sculptures created will inspire a stronger connection between the public and the natural environment while promoting the message of ecosystem restoration to the wider community.

The week-long eco-sculpture symposium offers an excellent opportunity to learn about conservation through artist talks and workshops, too. You will also get a fascinating look behind the (arts) scenes as the sculptors create their bespoke works on-site.

Our selected artists out of 40 applications are Simon Te Wheoro, Te Ua Hamuera, Jamahl Kappely, Donald Buglass, Nicholas Duval-Smith, Cheremene Castle, and Fay Troote. Click on their names to view their artwork and experience their journey. Explore their creativity, skill, and passion. Witness their evolution from early endeavours to defining masterpieces. Uncover the stories, emotions, and inspirations woven into each creation. Be captivated by their unique perspectives and styles. This immersive experience will leave you in awe, igniting a desire to witness their work up close.

Join us from 2 to 4 PM for complimentary entry to the Sanctuary. Then, kindly attend on Sunday, 27th October for the official winner announcement and artist prize presentation.
