Santacruzan stands as a highly anticipated occasion in the Filipino calendar, celebrated with enthusiasm across towns and cities nationwide. Rooted in rich history and religious significance, it unfolds as a captivating and elaborate parade.

Originating in the 1800s, Santacruzan has remained a centerpiece of the Flores de Mayo festivities. Revered in honor of Queen Helena of Constantinople, mother of Constantine the Great, it commemorates her pilgrimage to discover the cross of Jesus' crucifixion, which she brought back to Rome. Central to Santacruzan are three virtues embodied by Queen Helena: hope, charity, and faith.

Let your child experience this wonderful Filipino tradition here in Aotearoa. We are taking registrations for children who want to be a part of the procession. Please visit our website www.banyuhayaotearoa.org for more information.

The event is FREE. Bring your family to feast on Filipino food, watch traditional dances, see a cultural fashion show or join the Harana singing contest. Lots to see! See you on Saturday, 25 May 2024. Doors open from 12pm.
