Join Masterton Tramping Club for this 4km, approx. 3 hour walk in the ngahere from the Pukaha Mount Bruce / National Wildlife Centre visitor centre.
The Te Arapiki o Tawhaki loop track starts just behind the visitor centre and ascends 180 metres, steeply in places, a zig-zag track at times. The track is a well maintained forest floor, it could be muddy, slippery or covered in leaves. Your Tramping Club guides will point out large forest trees native plants, explain the predator traps you see and identify native bird calls.
At the lookout – a chance to have a rest, look at the local landmarks and the amazing view over the whole Te Tapere Nui o Whātonga.
Included: a welcome from Pukaha staff with introduction talk, a hot drink from the Kaka cafe and donation to the Pukaha Restoration project.
Please make your own way to Pukaha Mount Bruce, 85379 State Highway 2 – approximately 20 minutes north of Masterton (on SH2 on the way to Eketahuna).
