Preparing for The Big Day

In celebration of International Museum Day 2024 join the wider Toitū team for a day of exploration, knowledge sharing and hands on activities centred around The Big Day exhibition.

Assistant Registrar Beth Rees demonstrates the process the Toitū Collections team went through in preparing the seventeen wedding dresses and nine suits currently on display in the exhibition. You’ll get a behind the scenes look at the development, conservation and install of this display through an illustrated talk.

Many people ask us … how did you make it look like that?
So this talk concludes with a brief demonstration on how the mannequins are padded and prepared followed by a Q&A session with Beth with advice about storing your own wedding dress and special items.
