“Coherent, impressive and very special indeed. If you've got a little Beirut or Bonobo in your
collection, don't sleep on this band” - Clash Magazine

2024 is set to kick off in dazzling style with the debut New Zealand tour from New Delhi’s
psychedelic indie superstars Peter Cat Recording Co.

Something of an anomaly, not just in their home country of India, but in the world at large, Peter
Cat Recording Co. make the kind of music that defies definition. What could one moment be a
soaring indie rock anthem might give way to a gypsy jazz cabaret breakdown, an epic space
disco jam suddenly becomes the ballroom waltz you never knew you needed. Suffice to say, this
is one of the most exciting bands on the planet.

Founded and fronted by vocalist and guitarist Suryakant Sawhney, whose voice Variety
magazine once described as “an agile, velvety croon that sounds like Sinatra on two tabs of
acid”, the band has existed in varying shapes and mutations since 2011, releasing several
albums before their 2019 breakthrough record Bismillah.

Challenging perceptions of what a band from India can be is an important part of the vision for
Sawhney and his merry men; Karan Singh on drums, Dhruv Bhola on bass / samples, Rohit
Gupta on keys / trumpet and Kartik Sundareshan on guitars / trumpet.

Having played wildly successful tours to sold-out crowds across the US and Europe in 2023,
now it’s our turn to soak in the Peter Cat Recording Co. experience with these very special
shows.

“Soulful, vibrant and perfectly loose. Psychedelic disco-rock meets turbocharged gypsy jazz as
trumpets soar over cozy chord progressions and swinging drums” - Variety
