New Moon At Luna

A fine wine and sky pairing - Under The Stars has partnered with Luna Estate for celebrations of exquisite cuisine, fine wine, and the stunning night sky of Wairarapa Dark Sky Reserve. Timed for after dinner in the winter months, the stargazing will take place on the grounds of Luna Estate, a short stroll from Eclipse Restaurant. Enjoy a delicious meal beforehand (booked separately through Luna - https://www.lunaestate.co.nz/eclipse) or simply taste some of Wairarapa's finest wines before enjoying a guided presentation on the stars.

These events will take place on the closest weekend to new moon, guaranteeing dark sky conditions. The next event is on May 10th 2024.

Stargazing will include naked-eye presentation, celestial navigation, locally relevant content, Māori starlore, and telescope views. Learn about the relationships between agriculture and starlight through history and beyond. 

Comfortable outdoor seating and blankets will be provided but guests are advised to bring warm clothing suitable for being outdoors on winter nights. 

The formal stargazing session will be one hour in duration but the opportunity for further telescope viewing and discussion will be available after this.

If the Friday night stargazing event is cancelled due to unsuitable weather, you may still enjoy a meal at Eclipse Restaurant, but we will offer the chance to postpone to the following night for stargazing if the forecast is suitable. If you are not able to attend the next night for any reason, a full refund will be issued.
