Fresh from their recent nod as finalists for Best Rock Act at the Aotearoa Music Awards, Midwave Breaks are stoked to announce a special Hometown Show in Tauranga.
The AMA finalist recognition is a fitting testament to the band’s creative impact across the NZ Rock Music landscape. With the release of their latest 3-track EP Standing Inside Out, and the honour of sharing the stage with international heavyweights Incubus and Live on their April NZ Arena Tour, 2024 is shaping up to be another busy year for the Tauranga duo.
This headline show at Totara Street marks Midwave Breaks first hometown show in over a year. Vocalist and guitarist Bruce Conlon, and drummer Paul Russell, have always been strong supporters of local talent, and this show is no exception. The Opening Act will be rising starts from Otumoetai High School, 'Bloody Overalls'. This 3-piece heavy psych punk band promises a raw and improvisational energy on stage, aptly described as "Dirty, Nasty, Brilliant".
The event caters to both 18+ and supervised under 18 access*, allowing high-school aged fans the chance to experience a full rock 'n' roll show when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Midwave Breaks are excited to deliver their latest full length show, as well as continuing to shine a light on the next generation of emerging artists. Hitting in the middle weekend of the July School Holidays, lock this in as a Bay Of Plenty destination event, road trips fully encouraged!
Midwave Breaks are a modern take on the soundtrack of their youth - epitomized by 80’s-90’s alternative rock/pop - evoking hints of Springsteen and Petty, Cornell and Vedder, and a melting pot of musical influences from past to present. Since 2021, the band has had 5 independent singles in the Top 10 NZ Rock Airplay Chart, and a further 4 breaching the Top 20. Their debut single Lemonade Hand Grenade resonated across the country, spending over 12 weeks in the Top 5. Their 2023 release Souvenirs was the most played NZ Track on Rock Radio through May/June 2023, and the highest kiwi debut on The Rock 2000, at #198.
Driven by the energy of the creative process, and with an innate ability to craft songs that capture a moment, Midwave Breaks are purposefully retrospective mixed with the new.
Supervised under 18 access terms require that each attendee under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an 18+ parent or legal guardian. Full bar available for 18+. Tiered pricing applies, all attendees require a ticket for entry.
