A six-part workshop series is on offer for Waikato women and their whanau to learn and connect with others going through the perimenopause and menopause years.
“Menopause with Mates” provides good quality information along with an opportunity to meet others going through this life phase and the local professionals working in this area.

Sick of the ‘menopause’ word being greeted with eye rolls and jokes and want to find somewhere where experiences are discussed openly? Swamped by information everywhere, the nonstop sales pitches of online products and services and would like help sorting the facts from fiction?

The speakers of each session provide up-to-date knowledge of their topic, with take-home tips and strategies. The April talk by Dr Deirdre Rohlandt, Gynaecologist, will focus on the variable experiences of women in this stage of life and different treatment options available.

Subsequent sessions, at approximate two-month intervals, will include talks on workplace issues, nutrition, movement and relationships.

Perimenopause is not all hot flushes and night sweats. Did you know that thinning hair, itchy skin and an increase in allergies are all possible in perimenopause? What about heightened anxiety, panic attacks and electric shocks? It’s absolutely fascinating (if not fabulous) all of the different body systems that are impacted by the change in hormone levels.

Information is power, and although not every woman (and those with female hormones) encounter every possible symptom, it can be helpful to understand what some of the common experiences can be and how and when to intervene.

It is also not all about problems and struggles. There will be time to consider what this time of life can offer, how it can lead to better things and the preparation that can be helpful before, during and after perimenopause.

Feel free to come along to one or all sessions, with or without your own mates, before, during or after your own perimenopause/menopause journey.

A charge of $20 per session, payable by cash or card, will be collected at the door. For further information, please contact Jo Wall on jo-wall@outlook.com. Join the Facebook group; 'Menopause with Mates' for up-to-date information.
