Mauri Tau is a unique storytelling experience that weaves together the magic of theatre, your whakapapa to the stars and nature. This guided experience immerses you - the listener, in a playful and reflective Sound Play alongside Te Kāhui o Matariki (the star cluster of Matariki).

Writer, director Scotty Cotter collaborates with sound designers Fran Kora and Matt Eller to celebrate and usher in the Māori new year, inviting you to reconnect to your own mauri (life force, essence).

Mauri Tau is an audio play that encourages personal introspection. Reflections on loss or grief are considered in this audio-play.

How will it work?

Mauri Tau can be listened to from anywhere, but for the full immersive experience, we recommend planning a hikoi (walk) underneath the open sky to connect with your outdoor environment. If you don’t have headphones, you could choose to play the sound through a set of speakers. It will take approximately 50-55 minutes to complete.

Mauri Tau is accessed online through a smartphone device on your headphones. The audio file will be available to ticket holders during session times from ONEONESIX on Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd June. ONEONESIX will share a link to the audio file upon your arrival to the venue. From there you are welcome to listen at your own leisure or head straight out. You will need a device and a small amount of data for this experience.

ONEONESIX staff will be onsite to answer any questions and to help with tech aspects. So, grab your device, plan your hikoi, bring a friend or whānau member, meet at ONEONESIX and enjoy this incredible offering! Mauri Tau is a powerful and accessible way to celebrate Matariki this year. The ONEONESIX coffee shop will be open all morning; we encourage you to meet back at the venue for a hot cup of coffee and to discuss your experience with others.
