Come and celebrate Matariki with us on Friday 28th June, by enjoying Hangi, especially prepared for you by our Honey House Café Team at Kerikeri's historic Kororipo Basin.

It’s an enchanting scene: a sleepy Northland river basin, where two of Aotearoa New Zealand’s oldest buildings, one made of stone one of timber, sit nestled on the riverbank, amongst a heritage orchard and cottage garden flowerbeds.

Peel back 200 years of history, however, and the site of the Kerikeri Mission Station turns out to be anything but tranquil. Established in 1819 by the Church Missionary Society (CMS) under the protection of Kororipo Pā, this was a junction of early Māori-Pākehā contact, a hotbed of CMS intrigue and politics, and a key site during two decades of rapid-fire societal change leading up to the signing of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

The Honey House Café is located on the banks of the Kerikeri River, next to these oldest buildings.

Each Hangi will include: – Chicken, Beef, Kumara, Pumpkin, Potato, Stuffing, Silverbeet or Watercress and Fry Bread. The number of Hangi are strictly limited and will sell out!

Pre-orders can be taken at the Honey House Cafe prior to the day. Cost is $20 per hangi
