Discover a fun and easy way to transfer your photographs and drawings directly into prints.

Pronto plate offers an accessible approach to lithography using polyester plate. During this workshop you’ll be guided through the planographic printing process starting with how to transfer photographic and graphic imagery onto the plate and with a standard laser printer and rework the image with a range of markers, pens and crayons.

You’ll then dampen the plate with a sponge and water and, using oil-based inks, roll on the ink with a brayer before printing it on a small intaglio press. At the end of the workshop, you’ll come away with a small edition of your print and have the confidence to continue the process at home.

This process offers the opportunity for you to combine expressive mark making with digital images and endless possibilities to play with different colour combinations.

Pronto plate is a non-toxic, low-cost printmaking technique that is suitable to all levels of experience.

Don’t miss out – limited spaces available. Age: 16 +

What to bring:
• An apron or clothing you don’t mind getting a bit inky.
• You’ll need to email your drawing or photo to the tutor prior to the workshop to be printed on a toner printer to be transferred during the class.
• All materials will be provided.

About the tutor:
Mark Alister Raymer was born in Ōtautahi | Christchurch and raised in Texas where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Texas in 2009. After receiving a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Kansas 2016 he has been teaching art at tertiary level, and is currently at Western Institute of Technology, Taranaki.

His active studio practice is pushed by the endless potential of print. “I approach my work using my matrixes the same way I would make a collage. I love to combine print processes to be able to see a visual dialog that addresses their different mark makings and histories.”

Check out his work on his website and follow him on Instagram: @markalisterraymer

Note: Mark will be giving a FREE demo of how to create and print a Pronto Plate at Printopia Festival on Saturday, 4 May at 12:45pm in Opanuku Studio, Corban Estate Arts Centre.
