Kirkiriroa Hamilton Zinefest is 10!

You know what a zine is, maybe you didn't know it was called a zine: that time that shy kid in your class made their own comic; that self-published book of poetry by your favourite auntie; that photocopied political rant someone left under your car windscreen wiper.

Zinesters offering comics, poetry, political rants, drawings, collage, photography and all manner of storytelling gather at Hamilton Central Library to share their wares on Saturday June 15, between 10 AM and 3 PM.
Over 50 zinesters have already booked stalls with applications still rolling in. Taking part are zinesters from Kirikiriroa, Huntly, Te Awamutu, Wellington, Tauranga, Auckland, Bay of Plenty, and East Cape (so far).

10 years ago, the first Kirikiriroa Hamilton Zinefest was held at the Creative Waikato offices on Alexandra Street. About 20 stall-holders (mainly from Wellington and Auckland) shared their zines with locals, while around the corner, Ramp Gallery held a zine exhibition.

10 years on and the event has nearly tripled in size and includes a huge contingent of Kirikiriroa zine-makersand creatives.
Kirikiriroa/Hamilton Zinefest is now partnered with Hamilton Libraries. Various branch libraries are also hosting zine-making workshops in the weeks leading up to the June 15 market day. Check out our four zine-making workshops at: https://hamiltonlibraries.co.nz/whats-on/kirikiriroa-hamilton-zinefest-2024
