For this exhibition, Creative Fibre draws inspiration from the swift tidal movements in the Tauranga basin, the windblown grasslands, and the dense hillside forests of the Kaimai Ranges. Join us in celebrating the exceptional talent of our local fibre artists and their passion for fibre crafts and textile arts. From hand-spun yarn to delicate lace knitting, luxurious knitwear, felted containers, and intricate weaves, a diverse range of skills will be on display and available for sale.

Our Creative Fibre members have crafted these works using wool, cotton, silk, alpaca, and other fibres. They have spun, woven, felted, knitted, and crocheted these items for your enjoyment. Our mission is to explore, create, and inspire with fibre. We hope you’ll agree that the works in this exhibition achieve all three.

At the heart of the exhibition are the papillon shawls made by members during a group challenge in 2003. These colorful shawls reflect the patterns of imaginary butterflies. With this exhibition, the Creative Fibre group proudly introduces itself as ‘Creative Fibre: Kaimai Coast.’ Our members span the coastal side of the Kaimai Ranges, from Athenree to Te Puna. We hold monthly meetings in both Omokoroa and Katikati, welcoming anyone interested in developing their crafting skills.
