'He Tāhei Poananga' is an acknowledgement of the rising of Puanga, which rises ahead of the appearance of Matariki. Puanga guides the kāhui whetū Matariki along with other stars as they rise in the night sky. With the rising and the appearance of Puanga in the winter and Rehua in summer, the native clematis slowly grows eventually adorning Pihanga and her surrounding forests in garlands of beautiful white flowers, 'He Tāhei Poananga'.
For 'He Tāhei Poananga', as the connection of stars and landscape are celebrated, we would like to also celebrate a group of Ngāti Tūwharetoa artists who have joined together just like that of the garlands of native clematis to exhibit a selection of individual works.
He tāhei whetū i te rangi, he tāhei poananga i te whenua.
He Tāhei Poananga is open at Taupō Museum from 15 June to 28 July. The museum is open from 10am to 4.30pm daily and entry is free for Taupō District residents with proof of address.
