'furniture trio' is an ensemble of former composition students from the New Zealand School of Music Te Kōkī, featuring William Philipson (guitar), Liam Furey (piano), Nathan Carter (percussion).

In the beginning of 2024, in the heart of Te Whanganui-a-Tara, William and Liam began meeting up for sessions of spontaneous improvisation. Soon after that, Nathan joined the two, bringing his flair to the music being played. It is from these times together that the music of 'furniture trio’ was created. The music of ‘furniture trio’ takes Erik Satie's concept of "furniture music" and his love for surrealism, combining them with various genres from the avant-garde and popular music of the 20th and 21st centuries.
