From a spa bath in Queenstown to a glacial plain in the Mackenzie Country, hear the epic tale of New Zealand’s first meteorite discovery in twenty years and be among the first people to see this incredible find in person.
Fireballs Aotearoa started as a provincial citizen science project, largely led by the University of Otago’s Geology Department, with the ambition to detect a fireball and then recover any resulting meteorite. It soon caught the public’s imagination and has
since evolved into a nationwide network of cameras and citizen scientists, who have now realised this dream.
Join geologist Dr Marshall Palmer, together with Fireballs Aotearoa citizen scientists Steve Wyn-Harris and Dennis Behan as they describe how science, passionate people, and a bit of luck(!) conspired to track down New Zealand’s 10th meteorite.
