How does one picture the brutal connection between polymetallic nodule extraction, undiscovered ocean species, and literal labour? For the 12th Film Adjacent we are exploring ‘experimental’ ocean filmmaking. Christopher is interested in how wealth accumulation threatens ocean habitats; how technoscientific aestheticisation problematises our relationship with the natural world; and how filmmakers have developed speculative methodologies to articulate the ecological and political complexity of oceanic crises. Join us in watching a selection of films that question the role of ocean filmmaking in a future defined by loss and destruction.
