Come down and join us for a volunteer shift at Fair Food!
Our wonderful volunteers work out of our Hub in Avondale, hand-sorting healthy and nutritious surplus food supplied by our donor organisations to be redistributed to 50+ recipient charities, who then go on to make up food parcels for those in need, including asylum seekers, young parents, those sleeping rough, and mental health agencies.
Our volunteers are inducted and trained to determine which foods are fit to eat, cook, and compost.
We have plenty of parking, a bus stop right outside our Hub and space inside for bikes!
About us:
Fair Food is Auckland’s original food rescue charity, who are passionate about feeding people, not landfills. Every morning, our drivers are out on the road to rescue surplus food from growers, manufacturers, and retailers to redistribute to people in need.
Auckland’s food system makes up 18% of our consumption emissions. Food breaks down as methane, which is 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide at warming our planet. The greenhouse gas emissions from food loss and waste are the same as road transport globally and more than four times the emissions of the aviation industry!
