Draw for Change

Draw for Change! Is a 6-part documentary series about female cartoonists from all around the globe, challenging the red lines and the taboos of their society. Zooming in on their drawings, these cartoonists take us on a journey into their world in search of people who experience their drawings in reality.
In this series we’ll meet strong women who are each rebellious in their own way: they draw because it is unthinkable for them not to do so. The price they pay for performing their work gives these characters a dramatic edge. They have been fired, intimidated or threatened with death. But they invariably refuse to give in and succeed - if only a little - in changing their society.

Behind the Lines

Amany Al-Ali stands out as one of Syria's few female cartoonists, residing in her father's home in Idlib, the last city unconquered by Assad's forces. Like her remaining neighbours she's submitted to relentless Russian airstrikes and caught between advancing troops and extremist groups. Despite acclaim for her art, she faces threats, condemnation, and degradation, causing her to contemplate leaving.

Over the past decade, the artist Victoria Lomasko has dedicated herself to meticulously chronicling Putin's Russia, immersing herself in the heart of rallies and pivotal political moments. Fuelled by a palpable sense of impending catastrophe, just a year before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, she embarks on a profound exploration of the intricate connections between domestic and state-sponsored violence.

We Are Fire

Statistics on gender-based violence in Mexico are disconcerting: every day around 10 women are murdered in the country and over the last six years, the number of disappeared women and girls has tripled. According to official data, in 2022 a total of 3,754 women and girls were assassinated – and only 947 of them were investigated as femicides.
