Drag Workshops with Hugo Grrrl

Want to do drag but don't know where to get started? Hugo's here to help! Come along to these informational and educational sessions in August to get your drag journey started. These workshops are perfect for all new dragsters, kings, queens and in-betweens, as well as anyone creating a character and acts in any kind of cabaret discipline. Tickets are dirt cheap at $12 per session.

Drag 101: 12pm - 3pm on Sunday August 4th 2024
In this session aimed to get your creative brain sparking, we'll cover the logistics of 'getting started', how to develop a character and pull together a solid, satisfying act. Specifically, prepare to upskill your lip-sync, storytelling, prop use, and explore how to use energy, climax and reveals to your advantage. Bring pen and paper.

Drag King 101: 12pm - 4pm on Sunday August 11th 2024
Let's go, boys! We'll dive deep on masculine stagecraft - costuming, wigs, reveals, makeup theory, reveals and classic king choreography. We'll also explore drag king history and steal tips and ticks from contemporary legends.

Drag King Makeup: 12pm - 4pm on Sunday August 25th 2024
LOCATION CHANGE: Now at BodyFX in Morningside.
A drag king makeup practical session! Have a crack at a full king face - brows, eyes, contour and facial hair.
Bring your makeup kit and a small mirror. Some makeup gear will be provided.
