Creative Jam

Join us for an inspiring Creative Jam session where you’ll dive into the art of portrait painting with renowned artist Richard Coldicutt. This interactive workshop is designed for participants of all levels, providing a unique opportunity to learn from one of the best in the field.

What to Bring:
• Favorite Drawing/Painting Equipment: Charcoal, erasers, pens, pencils, sharpeners, watercolours, gouache, ink, palette, brushes, etc.
• Additional Supplies: Drawing board, paper, clips, easel, small collapsible table, etc.
• Drawing/Painting Surfaces: Paper, canvas, boards, etc.
• Supplied Materials: We will provide a small range of basics like drawing pads, pencils, charcoal and erasers.

Workshop Structure:
• Brief Introduction: Richard Coldicutt will discuss the dynamic interaction between participants, the sitter, and the artist, emphasising the goal of capturing something profoundly personal beyond mere description. He will highlight the importance of inviting happy accidents and making space for the unexpected.
• Practical Considerations: Guidance on setting up your workspace, including lighting, composition, and working at a steady pace.
• Warm-Up Exercises: Quick 5-minute exercises to get started, possibly working from a live model or pairing up, with one person sketching and the other posing, then switching roles.
• Extended Poses: Participants will work with a live sitter for a 20-minute pose, then switch roles if desired, to ensure everyone gets a chance to both draw and observe.
• Review and Critique: The session will conclude with an exhibition and critique of the work produced, providing an opportunity for feedback and discussion over a glass of wine.
