Learn how to make painterly marks using the versatile medium of carborundum.

During this hands-on workshop you’ll explore the deep velvety tonal range that can be achieved with carborundum gel. You’ll also have the opportunity to experiment with layering your carborundum plates with various techniques that make impressions directly from the surrounding environment. Everyday materials such as rough concrete to delicate ferns will be used to create unique background effects, using offset and frottage techniques.

Various found surfaces will be used to create underlying textures for the carborundum prints, and if weather permits participants will be able to print directly from surfaces around the Corban Estate historical site.

By then end of the workshop you’ll come away with a set of two to three finished prints and an understanding of different ways of mark-making and building up layers.

This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners and for experienced printmakers who are interested in trying some alternative techniques.

Be in quick - only 12 spaces available in each workshop! All levels welcome. Age: 16 +

What to bring:
• An apron or old shirt that you don’t mind getting inky.
• All materials provided.
