J.S. Bach - Brandenburg Concerto No.2
Barber - Capricorn Concerto
Aaron Jay Kernis - Concerto with Echoes
J.S. Bach - Brandenburg Concerto No.6

Presented by Ryman Healthcare

Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos are not written for the traditional single soloist, but for groups of them, almost like gigantic pieces of chamber music. This democratic spirit – to say nothing of the sheer joyousness of the music itself – has understandably inspired many composers since.

Barber’s Capricorn Concerto draws on the second Brandenburg, and Aaron Jay Kernis’ piece, despite its title, isn’t so much an echo as a deliberate homage to Brandenburg No.6.

Notes Fund - Music for this concert has been supported by Steven Brodie and David Lovell.
