The Auckland Youth Orchestra presents another exciting symphony concert series, conducted by Antun Poljanich.

On The Programme -
Smetana - Vltava (The Moldau)
Dvorak - Slavonic Dance No.2 in Emin, Op.72
Strauss - Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks
Jenny McLeod - Rock Concerto (soloist: Charles Sang, piano)

The programme opens with two gloriously romantic and melodic works:
• Smetana’s much-loved tone poem “Vltava”, depicting the flow of the Czech river from its source in Bavaria through its triumphant entry into Prague and flowing on out into the Elbe River; and

• Dvorak’s 2nd Slavonic Dance, full of longing, pathos and uplifting joy - surely one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written

Next up is “Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks”, Richard Strauss’ take on the German legend of a mischievous trickster who became known in folklore as a sort of ‘con artist meets jester’ - a fun, cheeky and thoroughly entertaining work!

To close the programme, hear a rare performance of NZ composer Jenny McLeod’s exciting “Rock Concerto” featuring Charles Sang on the piano. Charles has won many awards and competitions and currently studies piano under Rae de Lisle.
