In 2024, Dominion Road will light up for the Moon Festival, welcoming people from all
over New Zealand with festive lights and activities along this street known for its
amazing food.


Recently, the Auckland Balmoral Chinese Business Association announced that the
Auckland Moon Festival will take place on Dominion Road from September 13th to 15th,
featuring a wide array of events over three consecutive days.


Expect a visual treat with illuminated trees, Hanfu flash mob parades, hip-hop
performances, song and dance shows, lantern riddles, a children's playground, dragon
and lion dances, onsite mooncake making, and traditional Chinese cultural
performances, numerous organizations, institutions, and businesses have begun
intense preparations for this grand event.


This year's Moon Festival has several unique features:
Diverse Lighting:
The celebration will light up Dominion Road with various interactive lighting
installations, including illuminated trees, lantern riddles, large lamp posts, and a light
tunnel, offering visitors a range of visual experiences.


Diverse Activities:
Over three days, from afternoon until evening, both indoor and outdoor venues will host
different Mid-Autumn themed activities, including lantern displays, performances by 40
groups, dragon and lion dances, traditional ‘Xiangsheng' and martial arts shows,
modern street dance and stand-up comedy, as well as smaller performances, street art,
and games like lantern riddles, pitch-pot, and beanbag toss. The festival will also
feature a Hanfu experience area, professional business exhibitions, a children's
playground, mooncake-making workshops, demonstrations of Dragon Beard candy
making, and a variety of retail and entertainment activities.


Multiple Venues:
The festival will be spread across four venues and one commercial street. Three of
these venues are located along Dominion Road, while a special performance will be
held at the Civic Theatre in the city centre, featuring a professional troupe flown in from
China for a special show for local audiences. Additionally, numerous restaurants and
shops along Dominion Road will join in the celebrations.


Diverse Cuisine and Culture:
More than 40 on-site food stalls and over 60 street-side restaurants will offer a wide
range of Chinese delicacies from both northern and southern China, as well as cuisine
from other Asian countries and regions.
Auckland Moon Festival Schedule:
1, Three-Day Event with Free Admission:
The event will take place across multiple locations, including:
- Restaurants and shops on both sides of the food street from 531 Dominion Rd to
718 Dominion Rd
- Potters Park (173 Balmoral Road)
- Both floors of the Mount Eden War Memorial Hall (489 Dominion Road)
- Secure Parking - Balmoral Road Car Park (182 Balmoral Road)
Events at these locations will run simultaneously over three days:
- Friday, September 13th: 5:00pm–10:00pm
- Saturday, September 14th: 2:00pm–10:00pm
- Sunday, September 15th: 2:00pm–9:00pm
2, Exclusive Performance:
- Civic Theatre, City Centre
- This special performance will only take place on September 14th from 3:30pm to
