Afro Dance Fundamentals is a 10 week course (1st May - 24th July) designed to develop the five core values of the Africanist Aesthetic and apply them to a wide range of African dances from West African ethnic groups (Susu, Malinke, Baga, Djeli, Wolof, etc.) and the African diaspora (Brazil, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Venezuela, etc.). The course will develop key skills of poly-rhythmic awareness and embodiment (body isolation). Students will learn traditional movements as well as skills to develop improvisation.
