Unfortunately the Friends of the Ōtaki Rotunda have made the difficult decision to cancel this event due to low booking numbers, perhaps the timing was not quite right this time around. They wish to offer their sincere gratitude to you for your support for the project, and request that you please look out for other fundraising events for the restoration of the rotunda.

Please join us for this wonderfully unique fundraising event for the restoration of the Rotunda building at the old Ōtaki Children’s Health Camp.
Your ticket includes:
- Admission to the auction of the last fifteen watercolour paintings by Mary-Annette Hay. The artworks will be on display at the event prior to the auction commencing and go up in an a live auction with auctioneer Steph Bradley from Harcourts.
- A free glass of bubbles at the door, viewing of paintings and live music.
- Premiere viewing of short film produced by filmmaker Steve LaHood, about the Rotunda.
- Substantial food and beverage hospitality.
- Opportunity to partake in raffles with prizes from local businesses.
- A display of Health Camp First Day Covers.
The Trust’s Mission is: “To conserve for posterity the Rotunda building, because of its heritage significance as both an architecturally distinctive building and as the site of a socially significant institution, the Otaki Children’s Health Camp.” It is the intention that once the Rotunda is fully restored it will be used as a community events centre for groups througout the district.
The Rotunda is a large circular building located at the Otaki Children’s Health Camp, listed Category One on the Heritage New Zealand register and as a heritage building on the Kapiti Coast Heritage Buildings register. In 1931 two octagonal wards were moved from the King George V hospital in Rotorua to Ōtaki to provide dormitories for New Zealand’s first permanent children’s health camp which opened in 1932. The two each held, at peak, 60 beds. Only one Rotunda remains. Since the closing of the camp in 2018, the site has been declared a reserve and is now owned by Department of Conservation. The Trust has an Agreement to work in partnership with DOC to ensure the rotunda is restored.
