50s Up Brass , we believe, is unique in the world. We have around 40 mostly retired musicians with many of them being ex Army and National band members who bring a wealth of experience to the band. Our Musical Director is Alex Morton, a very respected music teacher and member of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.
50s Up Brass has played many concerts featuring such artists as Dame Malvina Major, The Topp Twins, Yulia and other prominent local and national entertainers. This year we feature the wonderful voice of International star Suzanne Prentice Obe.

Suzanne has wide experience over many years with many international stars like The Beach Boys, Roy Orbison, Emmylou Harris, Stephen Grappelli, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rodgers and many others in concerts across the world. Suzanne tours internationally and has worked extensively in television, theatre and cabaret for over 40 years. She was asked to sing for Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh at the Royal Variety Show in Auckland
We present the magical Southern Cross Irish Dance . Join in the excitement as you listen to the vibrant rhythms of 50-strong Irish dancers. Set to live Irish music and featuring dancers as young as 5 years of age, Southern Cross are sure to get your feet tapping along! Southern Cross Irish Dance was formed in 2017 by Shannon Dilger and Argene Flack, who love passing their enthusiasm for all things Irish onto dancers of all ages.

Last but not least, we present McAlpines North Canterbury Pipe Band (Inc) The band has a long and proud history, being established in 1928. Based in Rangiora, it draws its playing members from across the North Canterbury district, and from within Christchurch City. The Band proudly represents its long-term sponsor’s name throughout North Canterbury, from leading the Grand Parade in A&P Shows, Christmas Parades, Retirement village performances, sports and charity events, concerts and pretty much anything else they are asked to do! Anzac Day is a very significant and busy day.
The concert will be moulded together in the expert hands of personality, Paul Van Uden. Paul is a seasoned entertainer of stage, screen and the airwaves for more than 20 years in New Zealand and in the UK. No stranger to the world of brass having himself played trombone with Woolston Brass over many years.

Alongside bringing wonderful music to your ears, we will donate all concert proceeds to the Canterbury Charity Hospital, to further the amazing work they do providing Free medical, surgical, and dental services to the people of Canterbury and the West Coast. In support of this worthwhile community hospital we invite Corporates to order group tickets and to provide us with your Logo for advertising purposes. Check 50s up Brass facebook for more details
