Join Wellington Museum for fascinating floor talks about the rich history of Chinese Wellington. The stories of Dick Lee & Co. and The Favorite Milk Bar will be told by family of the owners of these evocative establishments.

We will be joined by Kerry Ann Lee; artist, Associate Professor at Toi Rauwhārangi, College of Creative Arts at Massey University and the daughter of Esther Lee (Esther and her father Harry Chin star in the story of The Favorite Milk Bar) and Cadence Chung; poet, student, musician and the great granddaughter of Chung Ying of Dick Lee & Co. These wāhine will share stories and personal anecdotes related to both displays.

Perhaps you remember sinking ice cream spiders and dancing to rock n’ roll until midnight at the Milk Bar? Or maybe you’ve explored the sale rooms of Dick Lee & Co.? Whether you want to take a walk down memory lane, or learn more about the history of Chinese communities, people and businesses of Te Whanganui-a-Tara, we’d love to see you there!

No booking required. Donations appreciated.
