Dave Wilson presents his quintet in a set of his original music that meditates on the brief nature of human relationships with one another and with the world around us. The performance will feature Dave on tenor saxophone and bass clarinet alongside some of the leading musicians of Te Whanganui-a-Tara, drawing inspiration from their wide range of musical experiences in contemporary jazz, bebop, the blues, modal jazz, indie rock, metal, maqam traditions of the Middle East, and more.
Having grown up in the Chicago area, Dave built his career in Los Angeles and worked as a performer and researcher in eastern Europe before moving to Aotearoa in 2016. Anticipating the release of his album Ephemeral for this quintet with a string quartet later this year on Thelonious Records, this performance builds on his previous album projects SLANT (2019), In Passing (2017), and On the Face Place (2016) with CSPS Ensemble.
