How much do you really know about the world’s most famous doll?
Barbie is a cultural icon and one of the best-selling dolls of the twentieth century. Everyone knows Barbie, but now you can meet Patsy too.
Join curator Megan Dunn in conversation with The Barbie Collector, Patsy Carlyle. Patsy is a retired St John Ambulance paramedic who began collecting Barbies in the nineties and says her collection has provided her with a sense of stress relief and joy. A large selection of Patsy’s rare, retro and collectible Barbies are now on display at Wellington Museum.
Discover the fantastic behind the plastic. Learn about Barbie’s achievements and controversies. When did she first go to the moon? Who was the first fashion designer to collaborate with Barbie? Hear Patsy’s favourite Barbie memories and why she continues to collect.
There’s so much more to Barbie (and Ken) than meets the eye.
All ages welcome.
